Benefits of Target Teen Safety

  1. This program has the potential to significantly reduce teen death and carnage while driving unsupervised. This is not a training program where instruction goes in one ear and out the other. It is a driver awareness program, making the teen aware of their actions whether they like it or not. There are a number of subliminal cues given that the driver cannot ignore.
  2. This program, while voluntary, fully involves the participation of Parents, Police, Schools and the Community at large. Parental involvement within the program is mandatory and requires their pledge to allow police to intervene on their behalf when their child is observed driving unsafely.
  3. The program is structured in such a way as to improve relations between parents, police and the teen driver. We realize that some parents would have to take a huge leap of faith to pledge their consent for police to intervene on their behalf. However; when everyone realizes they’re working toward the same goal, saving teen lives, cooperation improves.
  4. The program frees police to be more proactive rather then only reactive. Interviews with police show they prefer to take a proactive stance with teen drivers. They prefer to mentor and educate rather than write a ticket. With parental consent they can respond more quickly and avoid the harassment of civil liberties groups that scream “profiling”.
  5. The program places no financial or operational burdens on police. Police participation is voluntary. To the police the program is another tool in their arsenal to prevent death.
  6. The program reduces parental worry knowing their child is being monitored more closely by the community. It reduces the stress parents feel thinking about the catastrophic damage their child could cause and the liability that could follow.
  7. The program forces the teen driver to be more aware of unsafe driving tendencies. To be more aware that he/she is being closely monitored and that their parents could be immediately made aware of their unsafe driving behavior.
  8. When police intervention occurs, the driver identification card informs the police of how, when and where a parent can be reached immediately. Once contacted, the police and parent can arrive at the best solution to the problem. A totally proactive process.
  9. The program is non-burdensome for administrators. It can be administered by a part-time clerk or the students themselves. Computer skills required are minimal. The program administration is more intuitive then skill based.
  10. The program represents a perfect vehicle for a community outreach effort. Support from the business community can underwrite the minimal cost of the program. Resale of the programs vehicle stickers to parents represents a significant fund raising potential to schools.
  11. The fund raising potential of Target Teen Safety for program administrators of a 1000 student high school is on the order of $40,000 initially, and $10,000 annually thereafter.
  12. The program has the potential to underwrite much needed or desired school projects that presently go unfunded.
  13. The program has the potential to reduce statewide court expense by helping to reduce court dockets of teen traffic hearings.
  14. The program has the potential to reduce Police man hours appearing in court for teen traffic cases.
  15. The program stickers are presently Trademarked and the program is presently under patent review as a business process. Participants in the program can be reasonably assured the program will remain unchanged and unchallenged for many years.
